Corporate Volunteering

We get a lot of requests for one-day corporate volunteering projects, but they take so much effort. How do we make these worth our time? Stacey and Andy have some thoughts! Also this week, we talk about how to manage a founder who has retired to the board, how to politely decline gifts that we shouldn’t accept, and whether or not it’s a good idea to hire in an executive director from outside the community. Thanks for joining us this week, and be sure to send your questions to questions@NonprofitEverything.com.

Y U HATE GALAS?!

Why, oh why, do you hate galas so much? After 72 episodes of dropping unsubtle hints, Andy and Stacey finally got someone to ask the question they’ve been dying to answer. As you can imagine, they have opinions. Also, a complicated conflict of interest question turns out to have a pretty straightforward answer, and Stacey has some thoughts on how to say “no” to new program ideas.

Not My Fault!

One of our vehicles got stolen – how do we tell our donors? Stacey has an idea. This week we tackle the classic question “Do pledges count against our fundraising budget?” Stacey and Andy have differing views on the importance of dressing for a job interview (btw, Andy’s probably wrong), and we offer the 2019 version of silent auction dos and don’ts!

Promote All the Volunteer Coordinators

Ah, the double-edged sword of government grants. This week, Andy remembers he has to pay his car insurance, we talk about how to assemble a cash flow projection, Stacey gives some great tips on how to get silent auction items, and we find out whether or not you can put a slow-moving organization’s 501(c)3 on pause. Also, we tackle the ever thorny problem of just where to stick the Volunteer Department.
